About

Juliana Campolargo Hoyos is completing the 4+1 Electrical Engineering. Passionate about diversity in STEM, she has actively contributed to student leadership through roles in SHPE, Internships, on-campus jobs, and research initiatives focused on sustainable chip design. Juliana combines technical skills with community engagement, mentoring peers and organizing programs that support academic success and inclusion. She aspires to a career in Electrical Engineering and one day become an Engineering Program Management, leveraging her background, resilience, and dedication to drive innovation while empowering underrepresented groups in engineering.

Over the past few years, Juliana has mentored first-year engineering students in the Engineering Success Program and organized events with SHPE, experiences that showed her how small acts of support can make a big difference. She believes student engagement and service build community, create opportunities for others to thrive, and allow students like her to grow as leaders while helping peers succeed.

UIC’s diverse and inclusive environment has allowed her to pursue leadership and mentorship opportunities she might not have had elsewhere. Being able to connect with peers through SHPE, Alpha Omega Epsilon, and other organizations has made her time at UIC meaningful both academically and personally.

Through her mentorship and leadership roles, she has learned to communicate complex concepts clearly, work as part of a team, and manage projects, skills that complemented her electrical engineering coursework. Organizing events, tutoring students, and collaborating with peers provided hands-on experiences that reinforced what she learned in the classroom.
