About

Iza Kopec is a current senior at UIC. She is majoring in Biological Sciences as well as in Central and Eastern European Studies with a concentration in Polish Studies. She has a minor in Chemistry and is a member of the Honors College. She is deeply involved with the Eastern European community at UIC and conducts molecular biology research with Dr. Yury Polikanov. She has hopes of pursuing a career as a physician-scientist with a specialization in pediatric genetics. In her free time, she loves to draw and hang out with her cat, Frank.

Izabela is from Palatine, Illinois, and believes there is no greater feeling than being able to brighten a fellow student’s day through extracurricular involvement, mentorship, or service. She recognizes that adjusting to college life can be challenging, but believes in working together to make the UIC experience meaningful, fulfilling, and enjoyable for everyone.

She chose UIC because she resonated with its mission of diversity and uplifting others. After graduating, she plans to pursue an MD/PhD dual degree with the goal of becoming a physician-scientist. She hopes to treat a diverse patient population while also developing novel treatments to improve patient outcomes.
