MLK Day of Service

Since there is no class held on MLK Day, we characterize it as “a day on, not a day off.” Volunteer with other UIC students, staff, faculty, and alumni on Monday, January 17, 2022 at a variety of local Chicago nonprofits and community partner locations. Volunteer registration will open in December 2021.

 

Ignite: Exploring Leaders Program

New to UIC or just looking to get involved? Join Ignite! Participants will learn leadership concepts, engage in self-reflection, and discover involvement opportunities on- and off-campus. Applications will open in January and the deadline to apply for Spring 2022 will be Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

 

Leadership Book Club

Looking for a virtual way to get involved with leadership this semester? Join the Spring 2022 Leadership Book Club, and use this semester’s book as a way to discuss topics around leadership, identity, and civic engagement during the virtual book club meetings. The book selection will be announced in early January, and the deadline to apply for Spring 2022 will be Sunday, January 23, 2022. The first 45 students to register and confirm their interest will receive a free copy of the book.

Monthly Service Opportunities

Make Mondays Matter: Taking place the first Monday of each month, in partnership with multiple campus partners, this regular service opportunity allows students to give back while they are on campus.

GIVE (Get Involved with Volunteer Experiences): Taking place the second Saturday of each month, in partnership with local nonprofit organizations, this regular off-campus service opportunity allows students to give back while working directly in the community.

 

Leadership Workshops

SLCE offers the opportunity to explore leadership in smaller commitments, with a variety of hour-long leadership workshops, typically offered once a month. These workshops are topic-based and may change each semester. Visit the link for examples of past workshops and to register for upcoming Spring 2022 workshops.

 

UIC Student Leadership Conference

Join the biggest one-day, in-person leadership event on campus! Attend workshops led by faculty, staff, and peers focused on topics around flexibility, transition, and being a rockstar leader. The Student Leadership Conference will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 on campus, and will allow attendees to hear from keynote speakers and select from a variety of workshop offerings. Registration for the Conference will open on January 17. 2022 and will close on February 6, 2022.

 

The LeaderShape Institute

The LeaderShape Institute is a four-day, three-night off-campus experience, taking place on Thursday, May 12 through Sunday, May 15, 2022, challenging participants to lead with integrity while working towards a vision grounded in their deepest values. Temporarily live at the Loyola Retreat Center in Woodstock, Illinois with your UIC peers and experience the transformational leadership program that requires no cost to you! Applications for the LeaderShape Institute 2022 will open on January 31, 2022, and the priority deadline to apply will be Friday, March 18, 2022.
